Santa Shoe Box
A reminder to all that the Outreach Portfolio will be dropping off some Santa Shoe Boxes on Friday afternoon for all who are wanting to participate in this project and don't have the time to take it themselves. Each year the Santa Shoebox project collects and distributes gifts of essential items to underprivileged children. So far 92% of the children have been pledged boxes for so you can still go register to pledge a box on their website (https://santashoebox.org.za) and contribute towards putting a smile on a child's face during this Christmas time!
Interact: Uncle Paul's Christmas Parties
Springfield has been invited to volunteer at Uncle Paul's Christmas Parties (https://www.unclepaulsparty.com/?lightbox=dataItem-jo5sxbv31) again this year. These evenings are lots of fun and we get to help backstage with the setting up to assist in making things happen.
The dates that we will be assisting are: 22 and 27 November; 13 and 20 December.
For more information please speak to Ali Cotterell (acotterell@mysfc.co.za) or Claire Campbell (ccampbell@mysfc.co.za) or attend Interact's next meeting to sign-up which takes place every Thursday during second break in the Study Hall.
St Pius X Outreach Event
The Outreach Portfolio together with Refill organised an Outreach Event at St Pius X Catholic Church in Plumstead. St Pius X hosted their annual Food Fair to raise money for the Church which took place on Saturday, 26 October. The nature of the event consisted of Springfield Girls assisting at the various stores. Some girls assisted at the Kiddies Corner where they did face paintint, painted nails and ran the games. Other girls assisted at the various food stalls - such as the pancake stall, the boerewors stall, the ice cream stall as well as the sweets and popcorn stall. The girls enjoyed the day despite it being stressful at times - especially the pancake stall as everyone loved Emma Walker and Kelly O’Sullivan’s pancakes. The girls did an outstanding job as many people spoke highly of the Springfield Volunteers and expressed their gratitude for our assistance.
“It was at times very stressful but overall a great, valuable and very fun experience.” “It was a really nice experience, just knowing that we helped the community.”
“The day at the St. Pius Food Fair was definitely a worthwhile one. Through this Outreach event we were able to experience a new responsibility that was unable to be felt within a school and home environment. It also gave us an opportunity to get outside of our usual comfort zone.”
“I was fortunate enough to be able to contribute and participate in the running of the St Pius X Food Fair. It was a highly rewarding experience. I was able to meet new people, spend time with friends and interact with children and their families of the church community. I look forward to participating in many more of these events.”
