Marimba
On the 19th of October Marimba Jam hosted their annual Marimba Jam Eisteddfod at Cannons Creek Independent school which was a huge success! With the help of knowledgeable adjudicator Thandi Swaartbooi, who gave insightful anecdotes about the history and skill behind the African marimba and its players, we were able to fairly and proudly grade our students from grades as low as 5 all the way to matric. All students received certificates from Merit to Golden Diploma. Although the purpose of this event was to allow students to show off all of the hard work they’ve produced throughout the year, everyone who participated or watched in the audience in support of our students gained so much more. The energy in the room, the excitement of students and the wonderful stories and lessons Thandi Swaartbooi had to tell truly made this Eisteddfod great fun to attend and a pleasure to participate in.
Annual Prize Giving Outdoor Concert
On Saturday the 26th of October Marimba Jam hosted their annual Prize Giving Outdoor Concert at Springfield. Students from the schools taught by Marimba Jam were encouraged to bring their families along to have a picnic in the gardens while being entertained by students’ performances. This prize giving is an opportunity for students to be formally recognized not only for their achievements at the Eisteddfod but also for their hard work, enthusiasm, dedication and leadership within their bands throughout the year. This was also another chance to show off Marimba Jam’s talented students with performances throughout the evening. By the end of the evening every student who played, or supported their bandmates, received an award and left with a smile on their faces. Prizes were also awarded to subject music pupils not only for their stellar results from their recent exams but also for their hard work and dedication. Our Springfield Grade 10 Performing Band were awarded as the top scoring band of the Eisteddfod. Overall this evening was a great success thanks to not only our amazing students but also our teachers and jam meisters who helped it run seamlessly.
