A little about me:

Hi! My name is Olga Block and I'm so excited to be your Social Studies teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.

I grew up in New York City, lived in Florida before moving to Ohio. I received my undergraduate Education degree from Florida International University and my master's degree from Nova Southeastern University, both in Miami, Fl. My husband and I have 2 handsome and successful adult sons. One is married to our lovely and sweet daughter-in-law. And we are grandparents to a one year old adorable little boy.

We love to travel, go to the beach 🏖, and spend time with family and friends. My favorite food is dark chocolate. 🍩🍫. I enjoy shopping, reading, hiking, going to music concerts, traveling to new places, and trying new restaurants.

I taught 8 years in Florida then moved to Ohio. I taught at Crissey Elementary for 16 years. And I have taught at SMS for13 years. I 🤍 teaching Social Studies. There's so much to explore and learn!

The Ohio State Standards for Social Studies:

HISTORY: Early civilizations (India, Egypt, China and Mesopotamia) explain their governments, economic systems, social structures, religions, technologies, agricultural practices and products.

GEOGRAPHY/ MAP SKILLS: Tools to gather & report information about places & people. Use latitude & longitude to find locations. Human environment interactions affects what humans do and changes to the environment.

ECONOMICS: The interaction of supply & demand; needs & wants; factors of production. Compare data sets; global trade & specialization.

GOVERNMENTS and 5 Major WORLD RELIGIONS: Governments can be categorized as monarchies, theocracies, dictatorships or democracies. The citizens’ liberties and responsibilities varies according to limits on governmental authority.

We'll learn about the origin and basic beliefs of 5 major world religions.
