A Hundred Shades of Red
Strange things can happen
On a early September morn',
Miles from their home,
Both sides seem forlorn.
There is no way for LeeĀ
To regain back his lead,
As battle plans have now been found,
Courage, the Confederate Creed.
Instead of turning back,
Johnny waits by the church.
Waiting for Lee to give orders
To Jackson from his perch.
Johnny is also in the corn,
And Georgians in the hills,
400 riflemen wait,
For it's Billy they want to kill.
But Billy won't give up easy,
He thinks his chances aren't bleak.
He trys to cross the bridge,
But now there's scarlett in the creek.
When Billy finally crosses,
He attacks Johnny's right flank,
Johnny will never go home,
His widow's pension waits in the bank.
But Johnny wasn't the only one,
whose soul had died in pain.
The Georgians and their rifles
Caught Billy at Bloody Lane.
Both Billy and Johnny fought
hard and long and true,
But by the end of the day,
The Antietam was no longer blue.
Twenty two-thousand, Seven Hundred and twenty,
Were dead, or wounded, or missinf,
On the porch of Dunker Church,
While the angels were a' singing.
So yes, there was death,
And blood thats stain will stay,
But there's a hundred shades of red, white and blue.
Patriotic, the least to say.
