September

In September we will be learning about...

Social Skills

We will be reviewing and reinforcing social skills in the beginning of the school year. Some of the topics we will be focusing on include: sharing toys with our friends, asking to be excused from the table when we are finished, asking to pass items at the table and using our manners. We will be using puppets and acting out the situations and reinforcing these notions by modeling the correct behavior.

Science

The preschoolers will begin learning about sunflowers. We will learn the parts of the plant as well as growing our own plants.

Name Recognition

We will be working on the ability to recognize our first names in print.

I am Special

We are starting the year with a unit entitled, "I am Special". We will talk about ways that we are the same and ways that we are different. We will be supplementing this learning by reading books on this subject such as: "All Kinds of Children" by Norma Simon, and "Why are all Families Different?" Please feel free to continue this discussion with your child at home. Some areas you can talk about include hair color, eye color, child's likes and dislikes, family background, etc.

Quilting with Kids

We will be making a friendship quilt!

Dramatic Play

We will be making a farmer's market in our dramatic play center. The children will be given the opportunity in being both the farmer and the customer .

Learning the letters and our first name

Math

We will be learning about 1:1 correspondence (i.e. one napkin to each plate), counting by rote to five and ABAB patterns .

The Color of the Month

September's "Color of the Month" is red. Please look for upcoming notices about Red Snack Day.

Planting Bulbs in the Preschool Garden

We will be planting fall bulbs in our garden. Information will follow. We will be donating produce grown in our preschool garden to the Sprague senior Citizen Center.
