Parachute games in the gym.
And just like that, we're onto fall!
What an incredible summer it turned out to be for the Turtles. From practicing fine motor skills, becoming confident within themselves to try new things, and doing a whole lot of exploring; it's safe to say they had a summer filled with fun!
Exploring new parks/areas:
We were very impressed with the Turtles when it came to exploring new territories. Their instant desire to go seek what new things they could find was a sight to see. While being used to going to the Machray playground, we could tell they noticed the differences in the things around them; a higher slide, a slightly more steep ladder to climb, and more openings to be aware of. The Turtles absolutely loved their first time going to the mini playground on the side of the school age centre at CC. We think the group favourite was the mini wooden boat that they discovered!
Story time:
Reading has become an all day activity in the Turtle Pond if and when not eating or engaging in another activity. The Turtles were gifted a new book shelf a couple months ago and they definitely put it to use with its accessibility for them to reach whenever they please. We've recently added fun sensory books into the mix that show them the different feelings of animal furs and reptiles as well. On one of our walks we came across one of the many "Mini libraries" that you can find in different neighbourhoods, and little Miss Kaia picked out a children's book about whales. We brought it back with us and has now become a fan favourite!
Working on our confidence:
When working in the infant room, we have the pleasure of helping children become confident within themselves when trying new things that may seem a bit scary to them at first; like first steps, crawling up playground stairs, trying out new sensory activities or learning to go down the slide by themselves. Creating a safe environment for them to trust us becomes an essential first step for them to feel that confidence within themselves! A couple things we worked on were, confidently going down the slide without help (on their stomach or bum), feeling comfortable in the swings, sensory activities specifically with water, and understanding that the vacuum isn't going to eat you! We successfully helped our Turtles become confident with 3 out of the 4!
We're excited to see what fall brings us and even more excited to feel that cool crisp fall air!
