Artwork by Arlo Year 8 Art and Design (2020)
Key Stage 3 Art and Design will give students a balanced curriculum developing and mastering a range of skills and techniques.
During year 7 students will be introduced to the fundamental skills of art and design. They will develop a range of drawing techniques and grow knowledge of the formal elements.
Year 8 students will extend and embed their knowledge through a range of different themes. Students will learn a range of skills and techniques, including working with fabric and 3D materials to support their choice at GCSE.
The growth and development of our students is key to our departments pedagogy.
We have designed our Key Stage 3 curriculum around the formal elements, the fundamentals of Art and Design. The foundation of Art and Design. Using a range of themes, skills and techniques, and artist and designers, students will develop key knowledge and understanding to progress onto GCSE Art and Deign and beyond. The curriculum map shows the journey our students take in Year 7 and 8.
The formal elements of art are the basic parts that make up a piece of artwork. The elements are Line, Shape, Form, Colour, Tone, Pattern and Texture. We also consider layout/composition to be equally as important to produce a piece of 2D artwork.
