5th GRADE REPORT CARD OVERVIEW:
Over the course of each trimester students will be evaluated using various formative and summative assessments to determine proficiency in the following areas:
Language Arts Literacy - Reading:
Reads at Grade Level
Literal Comprehension
Interpretive Reading
Analytic Reading
Writing:
Generates and expresses ideas
Uses transitions and organizes ideas clearly
Elaborates by using details and descriptions
Uses conventions and spelling patterns appropriately
Language Arts Literacy - Speaking and Listening:
Engages in collaborative discussions
Expresses ideas clearly
Demonstrates listening skills for comprehension
Mathematics:
Operations and Algebraic Thinking
Numbers and Operations in Base Ten
Number and Operations - Fractions
Measurement, Data, and Geometry
Mathematical Practices
Science:
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of concepts orally and/or in writing
Engages in science and engineering practices
Social Studies:
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of concepts orally and/or in writing
Applies knowledge to classroom discussions and activities

Progress will be shared formally on the report card using a 4 point scale. The scale key breaks down performance based on how the student meets grade level expectations in each area. The teacher will contact students and parents throughout the trimester to inform them of any observations or concerns related to their achievement.
