TinkerCAD Codeblocks
In this activity you will explore coding and 3D design using TinkerCAD's codeblocks. If you are using the iPad, you need to download the TinkerCAD app from the SPF "Self-Service" app. If you're not sure how, just ask!
In this activity you will explore coding and 3D design using TinkerCAD's codeblocks. If you are using the iPad, you need to download the TinkerCAD app from the SPF "Self-Service" app. If you're not sure how, just ask!
For planning purposes, I suggest completing completing Steps 1 and 2 the first class block AND decide what you want to make using Codeblocks. That gives you 2 class blocks to create your project.
(click on TinkerCAD Setup for instructions - when prompted for a class code, enter the corresponding code below)
3A Class Code: I1FJ374NCGS3
4B Class Code: 7GBLBZY76YLH
After you sign in to TinkerCAD, click on Codeblocks on the left panel.
Complete the TinkerCAD Codeblocks Nearpod 👈Click here
Note: Enter your First and Last name in the "Name" box [or Login with Google]
**NearPod Saves your progress as long as you type exactly the thing in the "Name" box to sign in again**
The NearPod has lots of examples of things you can make with Codeblocks, a short video showing the workspace and a few questions to answer. The examples show the code used to make the designs - look at the code!! Try to understand what it is doing and how it works.
Review the following Tutorial for additional help getting started with Codeblocks: https://www.instructables.com/Learn-to-Design-With-Code-Using-Tinkercad-Codebloc/
Pick TWO starter designs to explore.
To access these, click on "Create New Codeblock" from the main Codeblocks screen and scroll down to the "Starter Designs" section. A copy of the design will be made in "Your Codeblocks".
Look at the code as you click the play button. See how it works. Change things in the code to see how it impacts the design. Modify the design to make it your own. <Do this with TWO different starter designs>
Take a screenshot of each of your modified starter designs. Add them to the Padlet below.
Decide what you would like to make using Codeblocks. Come up with 2 possible options and present your ideas to Mrs. Hollenback at the end of "Day 1" or beginning of "Day 2" at the latest. Explain your ideas with a picture or sketch.
There are lots of ideas in the Nearpod slides or the Rob Morrill link (and other links) in the Additional Resources section.
Your project must be your own creation.
Your project must include blocks from each category:
Shapes
Modify
Control (loops)
Math
Mark Up - Use comments to explain what each section of your code is doing/making.
3. Share your creation as a GIF on the Padlet below.
Find and click the "Share" button on the toolbar
Make sure you have the best view of your object
Click "Animated GIF" to start the Design Build sequence
Once the Design finishes building, the tool assembles the images into a full animation. This may take a couple of minutes if the design is complex. When complete, a .GIF file with your Design's name will be dropped into your Downloads folder.
Once finished, close the window using the Close button and return to the Codeblocks workspace.
Go to the Padlet below & add your creation (sign in!)
(Optional) Export the STL or SVG file & Attach to Google Classroom assignment
Whatever you create can (most likely) be 3D printed. If it is a design that you would like to put on a t-shirt or something like that, I should be able to create that as well (just may take some time to get the supplies).
*Your designs may not be physically printed or cut before the end of the semester, but I will let you know when it is done and ready to be picked up*
