UCD is a method of the Engineering Design Process where the designer focuses heavily on how the product or service will be utilized by its user. Every aspect of the design is aimed at making sure the user experience (UX) is the best possible when using the product. Thus, throughout the design process, the engineer must have a constant dialogue with its end user and be prepared for a high level of iteration.
The ultimate goal of User-Centered Design (UCD) is to develop a product or service that is more tailored, by design, to meet the user’s individual needs, preferences, and requirements. By doing so, not only will the end result hopefully be more successful, but the designer can also develop a deeper sense of understanding and empathy due to the close involvement with the user.
