Child Development II: Preschool–School Age
Course Syllabus
Course Description: The program draws on aspects of the social and biological sciences.
Rationale: The purpose of this course is to ensure that students have the knowledge and skills to enhance parent child/caregiver-child relations. Students will develop the knowledge and skills to solve problems based upon the developmental needs of children and make decisions that support the sound physical, mental, emotional, and intellectual development of children.

Classroom Expectations:
∙ Respect for everyone and everything!
∙ If driving to an observation location, drive safely and go directly to and from the
location back to school
∙ Be on-time, ready to work, and a good communicator
∙ Participate in class activities and discussions
∙ Conduct yourself in a professional manner, especially when we are off campus at daycare/elementary school locations
Assessments: Assessments will be done in a variety of ways. Tests, quizzes and projects will all be used in the classroom to assess the students' learning. Homework is not regularly given unless a student is unable to finish the work in the class time given. When homework is assigned it will be due at the beginning of the hour. Use your time wisely and you should be able to complete most work in class!
Make-Up Work: Assignments are due on the date designated. The handbook late work policy will be followed. If further time is needed for a unique circumstance, you must discuss it with the instructor. If assignments are not received on time, they will be considered late and will be given partial credit. It is your responsibility to collect any work missed due to absences.
Late Work: Late work is not encouraged and should be avoided at all costs. Late work will not be accepted after the end of each grading period.
Academic Dishonesty: Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated in the classroom. The student will receive 0 points if the assignment is found to have been plagiarized. If the student is found to be cheating on a test or assignment, no credit will be given.
Cell phones: Cell phones need to be turned into the caddy each day unless we are leaving for an observation day.
Any time a student leaves or returns to class, he/she must use the sign in/out sheet.
Assessments ~ 50%
Daily work ~ 40%
Final Exam ~ 10% of Final Grade
