Spartan Time
Spartan Time
Classroom Procedures
The first 45 minutes of Spartan time (1:45-2:30) will be designated to quiet individual work time. At 2:30, students will be able to leave the room if a pass is provided. At this time, students will also be able to work with their classmates. If I feel the students are not able to be productive or get too rowdy while being allowed this privilege, I will reconsider and students will continue quiet individual work throughout the whole block.
Student Assessment: Spartan Time includes a daily responsibility grade that reflects a student’s ability to use unscheduled time productively and follow established procedures. This grade is similar to an employability grade used in CTE classes and is based on observable behaviors each day. Students may also receive a grade for Spartan Time Advisory Assignments.
Cell Phones: Cell phones are a great tool but also a huge distraction. Students will not be allowed the use of phones, unless instructed otherwise. Before the bell rings, students should have their phones on silent and in their assigned Classroom Phone Pocket. If I see a phone without approval, I will ask it be put in the assigned pocket. If I see the student with their phone a second time, I will confiscate the phone until the end of the period. If it becomes a reoccurring issue, they will have to hand in their phone to me at the beginning of every class. If there is an emergency or you need to make a quick call, please get approval first.
Tardies and Absences: This will follow the school policy. Students should be in their seats by the time the bell rings. A student will be marked tardy if they arrive to class late, up to fifteen minutes. After fifteen minutes, the student will be considered absent. I understand it may take more time for you to get over from the Main Building to the CTE Center. If you need to do something between classes and are worried you don’t have enough time, please come to class, drop your stuff off, and talk with me. I may excuse you and you won’t be marked tardy.
Passes: If a student needs to leave the classroom, they must ask. Once they have approval, they will need to sign out. At 2:30, students who have a pass may leave only to go to the teachers’ room for which they received the pass from. Before leaving, I will need to sign the students pass and the student must sign out. When students arrive in and leave another classroom, they must have their slip signed and time stamped by the teacher that they went to visit. Students must arrive back in class with their completed slips by 3:10, otherwise they will be marked absent. When students return, they should sign back in and hand me their initialed yellow pass. If a student does not return with their completed pass, privileged could be revoked.
