Classroom Procedures

The first 45 minutes of Spartan Time (1:45–2:30 PM) will be designated as quiet individual work time. During this time, students are expected to work independently on assignments, study, complete missing work, or read.

At 2:30 PM, students may leave the classroom only if they have an approved pass to another teacher. Students may also be permitted to collaborate with classmates quietly at this time. This privilege is dependent on student behavior and productivity. If students are unable to remain productive or respectful, collaborative work privileges may be revoked and students will be required to continue quiet individual work for the remainder of Spartan Time. 

Student Assessment:

Spartan Time includes a daily responsibility grade that reflects a student’s ability to use unscheduled time productively and follow established procedures. This grade is similar to the grading used in CTE courses and is based on observable daily behaviors. Students may also receive a grade for Spartan Time Advisory assignments and activities.

Technology: 

Technology can be a valuable academic tool, but it may also become a major distraction to learning and productivity. Unless otherwise instructed, technology is to be used for academic purposes only during Spartan Time. 

Cell Phones: Before the bell rings, students must place their phones on silent and store them in their assigned classroom phone pocket for the remainder of class, unless otherwise instructed.

If a student is seen using or possessing a phone without permission, consequences will escalate as follows:

First Occurrence: The student will be asked to place the phone in the assigned pocket.

Second Occurrence: The phone may be confiscated until the end of the period, and a behavior referral may be submitted.

Repeated Violations: Student will turn in their phone to the teacher at the beginning of each class period.

If a student needs to make a phone call or address an emergency situation, prior teacher approval should be obtained.

Computers: School-issued computers are to be used for academic and school-related purposes only. Gaming, streaming, social media, unauthorized videos, messaging, or non-academic browsing are not permitted unless specifically approved by the teacher. 

Students who misuse technology, remain off task, or fail to use their computer appropriately may lose computer privileges.

Headphones: Headphones or earbuds may be used at an appropriate volume and only if they support productivity and do not interfere with instructions or classroom expectations.

Use of headphones is a privilege and may be revoked.

Student Attendance:

Tardies and absences will follow school policy.

Students are expected to be sitting in their seats when the bell rings. If a student needs additional time between classes or has a concern about being late, they should communicate with the teacher as soon as possible. Students may be excused at the teacher’s discretion.

Passes: Students must request permission & sign out before leaving the classroom at any time.

At 2:30 PM, students may leave only to report to the teacher listed on their pass. Before leaving, the student must fill out a pass and have the teacher sign it.

When visiting another classroom, students must have their pass signed and time-stamped by the teacher they are meeting with upon arrival and departure.

Students must return to Spartan Time and submit their completed pass by 3:10 PM. Failure to return on time may result in the student being marked absent.

Upon returning, students must sign back in and submit the completed pass to the teacher. Failure to return with a completed pass may result in loss of pass privileges.
