You Be The Chemist Challenge®
You Be The Chemist Challenge®
The You Be The Chemist Challenge® is an interactive academic contest that encourages students in grades 5-8 to explore chemistry concepts and their real-world applications. The Challenge provides a unique opportunity for a variety of individuals and organizations—including schools, members of the chemical industry, educators, and other community partners—to come together and show their support for STEM education.
For the past three years, Ms. Gaugler has had students participate in the local challenge at PSU-Lehigh Valley, then move onto the state challenge at PSU-University Park.
Periodic Table (Competition Version)
Students are encouraged to explore these resources:
- to answer questions they have while reading the study materials,
- to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts covered in the study materials, and
- to practice using their knowledge to solve problems.
Many of these resources cover material that is more advanced than what is included in the Challenge study materials and questions. These resources are provided to supplement CEF’s study materials and are not comprehensive of what will be tested during Challenge competitions.
- PhET: interactive science games and simulations. Use the links below to check out some of PhET’s games that help to explain concepts in the study materials! PhET can be viewed in English, Spanish, and other languages.
