Byrnes Orchestra Performing Groups
Concert Orchestra is a non-auditioned ensemble that performs in four concerts per year. Students have the option to participate in Region Orchestra and Solo & Ensemble.
Chamber Orchestra is an auditioned ensemble that performs in at least four concerts per year, plus recitals and other outside performance opportunities. Chamber Orchestra members receive Honors credit through the high school as long as they fulfill the Honors Credit guidelines for the course.
Honors Credit Guidelines
Students in the Byrnes Chamber Orchestra receive Honors credit in orchestra, earning a higher grade point than the general credit. Honors credit students must demonstrate a higher level of commitment to their individual musicianship by participating in the following:
Region Orchestra; possibly All-State
Solo and Ensemble including participation with an accompanied solo and participation in a chamber ensemble
Participation in scheduled sectional rehearsals outside of class time
Attendance once per semester of a professional symphony event (Greenville Symphony, Spartanburg Philharmonic, Charlotte Symphony, SC Philharmonic) followed up with a concert review
Private Lessons on their instrument and/or membership in a local youth orchestra (both optional, but highly recommended)
