Settimana Sei, Learn and Play!
Helpful Hints for Inquiry:
Think deeply and push yourself to go beyond your initial ideas. Ask “What makes me say that?”.
Remember, inquiring learners are curious, ask lots of questions, take risks, and attempt problem solving.
Listen to the story of Uno’s Garden read to you by Miss Woodward. When you finish the story print out the cause and effect template (or create your own in your books) and fill it out just like Miss Woodward showed you in the video.
After completing the graphic organiser, get ready to build! Can you help make a sustainable hut for Uno just like in the forest? You need to use natural materials such as sticks, rocks, leaves, mud and anything else you find in your garden. Alternatively, you can design it on a piece of paper or make it using recycled materials. Don’t forget it needs to be respectful of the animals and bugs that live in your garden.
Watch the video to learn about reusing. Your task is to design something that can be made by using a reusable item and turning it into something useful or something decorative.
What is this symbol and why is it important? Have you seen it anywhere before?
Watch the video and complete the activity.
Now that you know a little bit about recycling, see if you can sort the recyclable items into the correct bins. Start by colouring the bins and the items in, then have fun sorting them.
You can display your completed poster somewhere handy to help you with your recycling.
Complete a Chalk Talk (or texta talk) thinking routine around the question:
"What is sustainability?"
This routine encourages you to share your initial thoughts or ideas on a topic and make connections with the ideas of others. It is fine if you feel like you don't know a lot about sustainability yet, as this is something we will be exploring together soon. Remember that your texta does the talking and puts your ideas onto the paper.
Take the time this week to complete your poster or story box and to practise your oral presentation. We look forward to hearing them soon! Please see the letter sent home at the end of Term 2 if you missed it. Have a look at the teachers' examples below.
