Due to distance learning requirements, this year’s RCWS will look different from how we have done it in the past. However, we are guided by the principles developed by the first RCWS in 2000: To showcase student learning and celebrate the university’s commitment to student inquiry and signature work.
Can people outside of Southwestern access the virtual Research and Creative Works?
Some students have selected to share their research with the broader SU community. They will be visible to people outside the SU domain.
Will there be opportunities to engage with the presenters?
Yes! All abstracts will be uploaded to this Google site. Students will be encouraged to upload their posters, videos, or other artifacts. There will also be an opportunity for viewers to provide feedback using an online link.
I am a faculty member. How will I be able to view my students’ work?
On the Research & Creative Works Google site, student work will be organized by:

Student work is organized alphabetically. You can click on their name, which links to their abstract and posters, videos, or other artifacts.
I am not sure the best option for my research, can someone help me?
Yes! Ben Belz is available to meet virtually with students. He is working remotely, but can be reached at belzb@southwestern.edu.

Will the virtual RCWS be synchronous (real time) or asynchronous (no defined time)?
Most of the RCWS will be asynchronous. If requested, students can work with Ben Belz (belzb@southwestern.edu) to coordinate a live video presentation using Google Meet.
I submitted an abstract for a presentation/panel, how will this work in a virtual conference?
We are encouraging students to submit posters. However, we understand that for some projects, their work can only be presented orally. In those cases, we ask that students coordinate with Ben Belz.
I submitted a group abstract, how do I coordinate with them now that we are not on campus?
We encourage groups to still present their research. There are many resources available to help groups collaborate remotely like Google Meet. If your group does not want to participate, you can change your abstract to an individual presentation on this form.
Do I have to participate in the virtual conference?
While we encourage all students who submitted an abstract to participate in the virtual conference as a way to celebrate the research and creative works conducted at SU this year, we understand that new stay-at-home policies have disrupted some student’s plans. If you choose not to participate, your submitted abstract will still be posted on Google site.
I would like to host a live presentation of my research, can I do that?
We are encouraging students to submit posters; however, we understand that for some projects, their work can only be presented orally. In those cases, we ask that students coordinate with Ben Belz (belzb@southwestern.edu).
If I need to change my submission how do I do it?
Please note that on the update form or reach out to Ben Belz (Belzb@southwestern.edu) or Christine Vasquez (vasquezc@southwestern.edu).
Note: If changing from an oral presentation to a poster presentation, your project will be displayed on the poster presentation section of the Research & Creative Work Symposium Google site.
