A: The service is ready to use now! See the GetStarted section for how to download and install the software, and consult the Training section for opportunities to learn how to fully use the systems. Note: Only employees who have a university phone number assigned to them will be able to use the services. At this time, students and adjunct faculty are not licensed, though they can be participants in calls and meetings.
A: No, not at all. The use of the RingCentral Mobile App is purely a convenience and not intended for required use for most university positions. There may be exceptions for positions with after-hour on-call responsibilities or those whose positions require travel. Consult your supervisor or Human Resources if this is a concern.
A: Before calling or asking for help, we encourage you to use the RingCentral Support site, which is full of incredible support information, videos, etc. It is searchable, but we recommend you login to the site to see all the useful info. Also, like with all technology support at Southwestern, contact the InfoDesk at 512-819-7333 during business hours, or send email to infodesk@southwestern.edu if you can't find what you need at the RingCentral Support site.
A: Each person is assigned a TEMPORARY phone number until we migrate our campus 512-863-XXXX and 512-819-XXXX phone numbers over. This will happen on April 16, 2020, and that that time, the temporary numbers will be replaced with your campus phone number.
A: Everyone who has a campus phone number will be able to use the RingCentral software phone on their computer(s) and mobile devices. Many staff and faculty will also receive a deskphone. Information regarding this will be circulated soon.
A: Options for headsets are being investigated by the IT staff. The disruption of COVID-19 has slowed our testing of these devices, but we will be updating the information here when available.
A: Yes, the deskphones will accommodate headsets. Unfortunately, if you have a headset used with your old NEC phone, it will likely not work with the new one.
A: Each training session will be recorded and posted to the Training page under "Past Training Opportunities"
