3D Print Studio
In the 3D Print Studio, you oversee the entire printing process. From preparing the printer and adjusting settings, to fixing any issues that might arise in real-time while your object is being made. The 3D Print Studio has clippers, sandpapers of different grit/fineness, various files, and an illuminated mounted magnifying glass for post-printing detail work.
The 3D Print Studio is Room 225 on the second floor of the library. Training is mandatory before using the 3D printers for safety reasons. Once trained you can schedule the times needed to print your object.
Hours for the printers are:
Monday through Thursday 9:00am to 8:00pm
Friday 9:00am - 4:30pm
And when the library is open. The printers can continue printing past 8:00pm Monday-Thursday when the library is open however, printing must be completed by 4:30pm on Fridays.
3D Print Studio • Two Different Types of 3D Printers
Ultimaker 3 Extended - a professional 3D printer known for its dual extrusion capabilities, allowing simultaneous use of two materials or colors. With a generous build volume, swappable print core system, and compatibility with various filaments, it's a versatile choice for precise and large-scale 3D printing. Known for reliability and user-friendly features, it's a top pick for professionals in engineering and design.
FormLabs Form 2 - This is a high-resolution printer and excellent for all types of prints from prototyping to very detailed prints. The printer is capable of printing at 25 microns and to put that number in perspective, the average cross-section of a human hair is 50 microns. The printer works by using a 405nm laser to cure photo-sensitive resin.
Mandatory hands-on training is required before you can use the 3D printers
Walk-In Training - Monday and Wednesday 4pm-6pm // Friday 3pm-5pm

Quick Overview of Using the 3D Print Studio
Complete training on the printer or printers you plan on using - mandatory BEFORE using the 3D printers
Prepare your 3D print document/file for printing - each printer has its own process - details are on the printer's web page
Copy the 3D print document/file to your Google Drive or a USB stick/drive
Reserve the 3D printer for the entire estimated print time shown in Cura [filament] or Preform [resin]
At your reservation time, check in at the InfoDesk in the library
Load the print material(s) into the 3D printer you will using.
Open your print document/file in Cura [filament] or Preform [resin] and make any needed adjustments for supports, materials types and printability on the studio computer.
Save your adjusted print document/file and begin printing your 3D object(s)
If you plan on leaving while your 3D print is printing, check out at the InfoDesk
At the estimated completion time of your 3D print, check in at the InfoDesk
Perform the end of print steps, and return the printer and materials to pre-print state
Note: Final time for finishing of 3D print - washing and curing and/or sanding, trimming and so on - do not need a reservation time. Check in at the InfoDesk when you need access to finish your 3D print.
