Recording Sessions by Students: The current licensing of Google Meet at Southwestern does not provide the option for students to record a Google Meet session they have created. Through the use of a screen recorder on a laptop/desktop, sessions can be recorded and is outlined in Google Meet • Recording Sessions by Students.
Contacts Groups How To • For setting up live class sessions, office hours, calendar event invitations, and for sharing documents and folders.
Creating Repeating Calendar Events • Useful for scheduling live video and audio class sessions, meetings and so on.
For running your class live, we recommend that you use the tool that you are already the most comfortable with:
Google Hangouts Meet is available to all Southwestern students, faculty and staff through G Suite.
RingCentral Meetings
For pre-recording lectures
adding voice narration to a slide show can be done in Google Slides, Powerpoint or in Keynote. (Note: you can't easily move Powerpoint with audio into Google Drive to share with students. We recommend using a screen capturing tool like Loom (below)).
recording a screencast video of yourself speaking, giving a slide show or navigating your screen - use Loom (for those wanting the simplest, easiest tool) or OBS (for those wanting a few more features)
For posting videos and audios : Store your videos and audios in Google Drive which you can then share with students. You can add the links to Moodle as an easy way for students to play your videos and audios.
For more specific pedagogical advice about setting up these activities, see the Stanford guide on “Option 1: Run Your Class Live with Zoom”; “Option 2: Pre-Record Your Lectures.”
