From Sept. 2022 to the end of that academic year, I had the pleasure of working for Grade Potential Tutoring, a service that puts contracted tutors in contact with students and their families. I worked regularly with various kids of elementary school age, primarily helping them with their English language and writing skills. The flexible nature of the job allowed me to schedule tutoring sessions outside of my S.U. classes.
I met with parents and guardians to discuss their child's academic needs, determined suitable progress goals for them, and suggested how parents could promote learning alongside me.
I created lesson plans catered specifically to each student's needs and parent requests.
I made engaging assignments for my students and encouraged them to improve their communication skills to enhance their reading comprehension.
That reading and writing are foundational to a child's understanding of their school assignments. I had to learn how to introduce concepts to my students that they did not always have the vocabulary to explain themselves.
being responsible for my schedule taught me time-management skills, including factoring in driving time when I planned when to meet with my students. I also learned how to adapt and try new methods when explaining new concepts.
teaching me I enjoy working with children, familiarizing me with some of the aspects of being an educator, and also helping me cover some additional school expenses at the time.
