Founded in 2009, Water Strategies LLC is a professional private-sector lobbying firm specializing in water infrastructure, power, and agriculture issues. While working there, I acted as both a media and legislative assistant. The firm publishes informative magazines on several water-related topics.
I am able to succinctly identify, comprehend, and appropriately utilize professional terms/jargon used in private sector work.
I confidently produce high-quality informative articles about the various power-related, agricultural, and municipal water projects around the western U.S. region.
I am adept at communicating with legislators and perform well in governmental environments.
I attended United States Senate and House of Representatives committee meetings on various environmental, energy, and natural resource topics frequently; where I took detailed notes and curated brief, informative memos catered to the business needs of the firms' clients.
I shadowed the legislative director and team during Capitol Hill staff office building tours; where clients would meet with U.S. officials to propose their issues. These often included: seeking federal aid for irrigation and water conservation, establishing working relationships between water-processors and their state leaders, discussing acts in Congress, and more.
I edited magazine mailing lists for the firm's multiple publications: Irrigation Leader, Hydro Leader, and Municipal Leader.
I proofread professional invitations to company workshop events, receptions, and holiday events.
I answered phone calls and email correspondences about assignments and projects from my employer, the President, and C.E.O.
I assisted with cooking and preparing meals for clients and guest speakers, as well as general cleaning and housekeeping duties within the DC office.
When I shadowed the Water Strategies LLC team while they worked with a canal company based in Arizona. The trip afforded me to tour the Department of the Interior and witness meetings with the Bureau of Reclamation. I learned so much about how Bureau officials learn about, plan, and approve projects in the states they work with.
A nuanced understanding of the groups of people that keep affairs in Congress running fluidly, business etiquette, and increased familiarity with professional communications between the government and private sectors.

concepts from comparative politics, environmental studies, and even international politics that I learned from my courses at Southwestern University. For example, I was already familiar with the chain of command within legislator offices. So when asked to write letters, I was able to tailor the assigned work around the intended recipients' area of expertise.
Also, the general knowledge I was taught in my environmental studies courses about underground aquifers, replenishment practices, and the origin of U.S. western water law was incredibly useful when engaging with clients from Arizona, Washington, and similar regions.

have evolved, and I am more interested than ever in official publications about environmental issues. Before, I believed I wanted to work solely in legislation. However, figured out how much I enjoyed researching while following committee hearings and curating business memos.
