Hi, my name is Mrs. Poirier! I was born in Detroit and raised in the surrounding suburbs. I attended Michigan State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2007. Following college, I moved to Chicago and worked as an engineering consultant for three years in the power industry. My responsibilities included retrofitting coal-burning power plants to update them with current technology. The goal of the job was to make power plants have less emissions of pollution such as Sulfur and Nitrogen into the atmosphere. Although I enjoyed my position and helping the environment, I decided to go back to school in 2010 to become a teacher. I attended DePaul University in Chicago, IL and received my Master's in Education in 2012. I worked as a Chicago-land public school teacher teaching Math and Science before deciding to come back home to the Detroit area in 2015. I love Detroit, the people, the sports, the community. I believe that every student should get the chance to get a STEAM education! It can and will lead to wonderful education, internship and career opportunities!
