Dr. Shenghua Wu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Coastal, and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Alabama. He holds multiple leadership roles, including the Director for Interdisciplinary Center for Sustainable Engineering (ICSE), the Director for the Solid Waste Sustainability Hub, Director for the Gulf Coast Center for Addressing Microplastics Pollution (GC-CAMP), and Director for the Sustainable Materials Laboratory. He is the founding faculty advisor for the Society of Sustainable Engineering (SSE).
Dr. Wu's research focuses on sustainability and resilience, materials characterization, transportation infrastructure, using interdisciplinary approaches to emerging environmental issues, and STEM education. He has secured over $11 millions in funding from federal and state agencies. He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed journal articles, 11 technical reports, and has delivered over 80 presentations.
In addition to his research, Dr. Wu teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate engineering courses, including new initiatives such as technical writing for research, plastics circularity and materials sustainability. He holds membership in professional organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), and Academy of Pavement Science and Engineering (APSE). He serves as an editorial board member for ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, Journal of Testing and Evaluation, and the International Journal of Pavement Research and Technology. He has been invited to review over 1000 journal articles and conference manuscripts, for which he has received several awards for outstanding reviewing. Dr. Wu is a registered professional engineer (PE) in Alabama and a LEED AP.
