Welcome to the Gulf Coast Environmental Engagement Center!

Welcome to the Gulf Coast Environmental Engagement Center (GCEEC), an initiative proudly established at the University of South Alabama (USA) in collaboration with Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL). Our center is dedicated to fostering environmental engagement, supporting impactful research, and promoting sustainable stewardship within Alabama's coastal communities. With a competitive project selection program, we focus on empowering local initiatives that address water quality, habitat restoration, and community resilience, bringing benefits to all people in our communities.

What We Do

Facilitating Knowledge and Technology Transfer

Act as a conduit for the transfer of cutting-edge knowledge, research findings, and technological innovations to stakeholders in the Gulf Coast region, we bridge the gap between academic research and practical application, ensuring that solutions to environmental challenges are effectively communicated, adopted, and scaled to achieve long-term sustainability.

Promoting Research and Education on Environmental Issues

Encourage and support innovative research and educational initiatives that focus on environmental issues, sustainability, and resilience. We collaborate with academic institutions, community organizations, and researchers to generate new knowledge, raise awareness, and empower communities through education and capacity-building programs.

Advancing Environmental Stewardship

Implement and promote practices that enhance environmental stewardship and foster community resilience. We work with local stakeholders to develop and deploy strategies that protect natural resources, restore ecosystems, and prepare communities for the impacts of environmental challenges.

Managing Subawards

Coordinate and oversee a competitive program that funds projects addressing environmental engagement and sustainability in Alabama’s coastal regions. Projects will support various initiatives, including habitat restoration, community resilience, environmental education, and water quality improvements.
