From May to July this year, 15 students from Year 5 participated in the NTU Social Science Challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to write a policy memo to address the different demographic needs in Singapore, these include issues such as Single parenthood, Migrant Workers and Youths at risk.
Against 20 teams from other schools, one of our SOTA teams got into the Final Round and won the 5th place. The other two teams also fared really well, clinching a distinction and a merit award. Congratulations to all award recipients!
One of the key takeaways from participating in this challenge was learning how to craft a policy memo. Through our research, we had a deeper understanding of the struggles faced by marginalised communities in Singapore. We also had the privilege to participate in masterclasses and be mentored by NTU professors.
For those of you with a keen interest in the social sciences and public policies, this competition has been enriching and opened our eyes on how the different humanities subjects are intertwined.
