After nearly 20 years in the classroom, I began to notice the same patterns again and again.
Children who were capable but lacked confidence.
Children who were either not being challenged enough or were struggling to keep up.
Children who were starting to disengage from learning altogether.
I realised that one of the biggest problems wasn’t ability — it was how learning was being delivered.
During my time teaching across Nottingham, Leicester and Loughborough, I worked with a wide range of children, from Early Years through to Year 6. I saw first-hand how different every child is, and how a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work for many of them.
Some children need more challenge.
Some need more support.
Most need someone who understands how they learn.
Over time, I developed an approach that allows me to respond to each child as an individual — reading how they are working, anticipating where they might struggle, and adapting in real time.
This is much harder to achieve in a busy classroom, but it makes a huge difference to how children feel about their learning.
I loved my time in teaching, but I wanted to create an environment where I could work more closely with children, build stronger relationships, and help them develop both confidence and ability together.
That’s what led me to start Mr Dale Tutoring.
My sessions are calm, engaging, and supportive, while still challenging children to make progress. The aim is not just to help children “keep up”, but to help them feel confident, capable, and more positive about learning.
If you choose to work with me, your child will be supported, challenged, and encouraged to achieve their potential in a way that works for them.
