Writing Support that Builds Confidence and Expression
Writing can feel overwhelming for many children.
Often, it’s not a lack of ideas — it’s knowing how to organise them, get started, and feel confident enough to put them down on paper.
Sessions focus on building confidence alongside key writing skills, helping children feel more comfortable expressing their thoughts.
A big part of this is making writing feel relevant and engaging. I often tap into children’s interests from home — using a picture, video clip, or even moments from their favourite films or TV programmes as a starting point.
This helps stimulate ideas, increase enthusiasm, and make writing feel more enjoyable and natural.
I then adapt in real time to how each child is approaching their work — whether that means supporting structure, developing ideas, or helping them refine their writing step by step.
This allows children to feel less pressure, more in control, and more willing to engage with writing tasks.
Over time, this leads to:
• Greater confidence in getting started
• Clearer structure and organisation
• Improved sentence construction and vocabulary
• More creativity and independence
• A more positive attitude towards writing
As both a tutor and the author of the Sophie Hardy Saga, I place a strong emphasis on helping children see writing as something they can enjoy and feel confident in — not something to avoid.
