The theme for the 4th Annual Women of Color Conference is “Self-Reflection, Liberation, Continuity” which aims to highlight issues concerning liberation movements, how one must develop self-awareness in these movements, and how we collectively think about the ways in which we continue these movements. For example, how do we "pass the mic"? How can we develop healthy self-criticism and reflection to better develop our theories, practices, and ideologies? Who are we liberating and what does liberation look like in different communities?
Topics may include, but are not limited to:
WHO SHOULD SUBMIT A PROPOSAL?
We encourage all women of color, femmes of color, and non-binary/gender non-conforming folks of color to submit a proposal. Proposals can be for workshops, lightning talks, panel discussions, poster presentations, demonstrations, and artistic performances. We recognize and celebrate all backgrounds: scholars, artists, business owners, and community organizers regardless of job title, experience or level of education. All proposals should connect in some way to the conference theme.
WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY ABSTRACT?
Your proposal abstract must address each area below. The narrative cannot exceed 1500 words.
a. Objectives: Describe your specific goals and/or anticipated outcomes for your work. In other words, what do you plan to accomplish with presenting your work? How does it connect to our conference theme?
b. Impact: Describe clearly one or more of the following points: (1) the significance of the presentation in relation to your discipline/field of study; (2) the significance of the presentation for your own professional trajectory/development; (3) how your presentation does/will benefit your local community or the greater North Bay area.
c. Origin and Future: How did you get involved with the field of work/study that you're in? How do you plan to uplift and support other women of color who are interested in the same or similar fields?
The NBWOCC Planning Committee is responsible for evaluating all proposals. Committee members are rotational, but always include WoC who are students, educators, and grassroots community organizers of the North Bay area.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO RECEIVING YOUR PROPOSAL!
