Daily Procedure
Giving a subject a dispersion or splatter effect can create an incredibly dynamic image. The best part is, it’s very quick and easy to do with a few Photoshop brushes, but the end result can look very complex as if it took you hours to create.
· Import Photo
· Copy and paste the photo into a new PS document. 11x14 100 Resolution
File> New 11x14 resolution 100
Edit Paste
· Separate Person from Background as shown below
· Repair Background (clone stamp) or Import new background
· Duplicate person layer
· Select the bottom most layer (Edit Transform)to transform him. You want to stretch the person horizontally.
The idea here is that we’re giving a color area for our splatters to pick up via a mask.
· Create a mask for the distorted layer. Select the distorted layer and click the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers palette. Fill the mask with solid black.
· Now use the splatter brushes to reveal portions of the layer by clicking the mask using solid white as the foreground color.
For the final touches add a bit of highlight. But before we do that… I took one large dark splatter and placed it on a layer behind I basically just wanted to see some light splatters that fell beyond the distorted layer mask.
Blend layers with opacity, feather edges, and finish SEEMLESS graphic.
PHOTOSHOP ACTIONS
Open the actions tab (Window>Actions) and you will find the "DISPERSION by PSDDUDE" set of actions. Open a new file and add the image that you want to disperse. Play one of the 2 actions available in this pack and wait. A message will appear telling you to "Brush over the area that you want to disperse and resume Play". That is all.
After the action has ended you can customize the effect. Choose any of the disintegration effect layers and simply move, rotate, resize, etc. You can also add some Gaussian Blur effects.
Here you have a step by step dispersion Photoshop tutorial that will show you how to use this action.
