Thank you so much parents for organizing materials. We will be safe, learn to take care of our own supplies, and be organized too!
Parents..... I miss you in school, another year without you around is hard for us in Art and in class. We will follow the rules and think positively.
We at SOIS have your child's safety as our No. 1 concern.
Creativity is fun! But it is more fun with everyone involved. See you in cyberspace on Back To School Night 2021!
We keep our supplies like this now.
Watch some of these videos below to prepare for Felt making next week.
Then make a process chart and show your learning of how real felt is made or how we will make felt in school
Be creative show the process in a drawing, collage or mind map.
Did you know Felt came from a sheep?
How will we make felt snakes? Or felted soap?
Let's have fun with new processes and materials.
Now let's inquiry into what FELT is.....before we make our own next week.
Maybe we should try this. It looks so fun.
Look at this it is from a huge factory.
NOW LOOK at these videos
sheets, soap and snakes.
We are learning about materials and processes in preparation to make felt from wool after golden week.
What materials are included in art supplies?
How are things made?
Find your favorite video of how something is made. I recommend a crayon.
Here is the link to watch there are many good ones. Use this link or find your own...watch or Read in Epic books the process of HOW different materials and processes are used in making art supplies.
Did you know crayons are made from wax?
You can watch one two or more videos and read the How it is made books on Epic.
Learning processes and about materials is so good for all artists.
I can't wait to do the felting process with you.
An extension challenge for you is to research and read about felting.
On a piece a of paper
1 -Draw your object you watched a video or read about.
2-Then after you finished watching or reading about how it is made
then make a mind map or process chart or just a cool artwork on what you learned.
Be sure to include all the materials needed to make this object.
Have fun watching HOW IT IS MADE videos and read more processes on EPIC books.
NEXT week we will inquire into wool and learn about felting.
We will get to make our own felt art!!!

Parents Please buy a smock or art apron to cover clothes. We don't want to share at this time.
SMOCK Please wash them every few weeks or weekly depending on the project. You can order this all online but there are so many choices depending on age and preference.
I think parent/ student personal choice to protect clothes is fine.
POSCA Also to help supply our Art baskets please get some wide Bold 8mm chisel top paint Posca markers. 8 Pack.
I think the easiest place to buy Posca is at Conan. But here are some pictures below we found online.
The Art Room
Check out our fun basket system!
It is the NEW Normal!
Buying at Conan or Ayahadio is maybe the best option.
Goal: Zoom with us this week to meet three real Archaeologists living in Japan
Think about how history and art and artifact and how they are all connected. Where is Mt. Asama in Japan?
Try to find it on the map before class.

Let's meet some Archeologists in our Art Zoom this week and go into a Museum at Mt. Asama and see what clues the Jomon People in Japan left us about the past.
I wonder what we will find? Ponder.....
Draw your ideas or your thoughts about the past.
Think about what clues can be found and what they might be made out of.
I wonder what artifacts you would find if you were an archaeologist is another country? Draw your ideas.
Goal: Draw a toy or object (artifact) you remember from your childhood
What is an artifact? Why are memories important to artists? Why do we study the past?
Instructions:
Look at the drawing of the storytellers in ancient Japan let's look at the details together.
Listen to the sounds with Mrs Henbest on Zoom what does it make you think of?
As you listen we will draw a memory from our childhood or a toy from your childhood
Tips:
have paper and pencils ready
be sure your sound works well so you can hear the sounds.

What is your favorite habitat? How would you build or make it?
make a supply list - find in your home ask your parents for help but always do your own work independently
make a real animal or insect habitat or imaginary one for your bedroom
decorate it
Tips:
remember the size of the hole or door or the way they get in has to be measured.
oops don't use washable paint if it goes outside.
think carefully about placement because of predators
think about food to attract them
remember challenge your creativity and try an imaginary habitat for the animals that 'live' in your bedroom. *See Catalina's video for ideas.
SO who can find the secret insect 'mobile'... That sure would be fun to make.
Here are some stories to inspire you with REAL habitats..............................................................................................and IMAGINARY Dreams lands.

See the Mark Dion art work -what is he saying about habitats? Do you think is it ART or Science?
What is he trying to do with this tree/art habitat?
What does it make you think about? Let's draw out our thoughts in the zoom class
Tips:
Think about connections in our world
Are you an artist or in inventor or a scientist or an ecologist?
Let's look at Mark Dion's Vivarium in Seattle Washington in the USA .........so his artwork is its own museum. This is called Installation Art. What is this about?
What learning do you think is going on inside this artwork?
Lets Watch Catalina in Grade 4 talk about her imaginative and creative habitats and houses she made.
One For a rooster and one for some mini cats!
If you live in a place you cannot make a real habitat
this is an another choice lead by creative Catalina.
This looks so fun Catalina - thanks for inspiring us.
