Welcome to Biology!
In 9th grade biology students deepen their understanding of life by focusing on the characteristics, components, and processes that unite all organisms. Students will also examine the differences between organisms and the biodiversity that makes planet Earth so awe-inspiring. Students will ask and answer questions about the composition/components of life and the interrelationships between organisms and their environments. By the end of the course, students will have deepened their understanding of topics such as: the characteristics of life, the chemical reactions essential to life (photosynthesis, respiration, etc.), cell theory, DNA and protein synthesis, biotechnology, genetics and the variation/inheritance of traits, growth, reproduction, homeostasis, and evolution. Students will also be developing scientific investigation and engineering design skills such as: formulating predictions based on research, using observable and measurable evidence to support conclusions, representing data with diagrams, using models to make predictions and understand relationships, and creating mathematical models to evaluate data.
