Welcome to 8th grade ELA!
Our work this year will focus on strengthening our reading & writing skills so that we can become powerful agents of change in our communities and in our own lives. This work cannot happen alone and relies on our contributions to our collective community. Think about what you bring to our community so that you can also recognize the gifts others around you bring.
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
Our study of reading & writing parallels your study of US History by focusing on themes of freedom and individualism/collectivism. These questions float over all the work we do and are invitations to take daily thinking to deeper levels:
How do our own identities affect how we read stories?
How can reading help us grow into the people we want to become?
What makes writing “good”?
Which craft moves help me develop my signature writing voice?
