We are so excited to introduce you to a new society with a lot to offer... From jamming out, covering pop and rock songs using only voices and body percussion, to making new mates and meeting new people at our epic movie nights and A Cappella themed socials, ASS has it ALL! What is A Cappella?
A Cappella is the vocal performance of music without the use of any instruments - just the juman voice. Join us as we cover all your favourite pop hits, rock anthems, experiment with new genres and even create our own original music.
Our groups
After being set up in February this year, we have already had a fantastic start in gaining members and interest in A Cappella. We run an un-auditioned group once a week which is open to all to join in and have fun singing with like-minded people. This year we aim to expand and launch a competetive group, which will take part in the ICCAs (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella - yes, just like in Pitch Perfect 2), representing the University of Sussex on national and even international stages! We would also love to support members in setting up and running their own A Cappella groups as part of the society (for example: an all female identifying group, a barbershop group, etc.!)
What can you look forward to as a member of ASS?
We have some amazing plans for A Cappella at Sussex, including putting on our own A Cappella shows on campus, recording music videos, busking, raising money for charity, recording our own studio albums, and competing in global competitions. We also plan to have some of the wildest and wackiest socials on campus, with something for everyone: from boardgame nights and movie nights (Pitch Perfect anyone?), to pub crawls and houseparties! We will also collaborate with other student groups on campus (especially the Creative Arts Group), and also connect and make friends with the wider A Cappella cimmunity across the U.K. and beyond!
