Sto. Niño Parochial School (SNPS) was established in June 1967 in Bago Bantay, beginning as a Kindergarten class founded by Msgr. Miguel P. Nuguid and the Catholic Women’s League, initially held at the Bago Bantay Health Center. By 1968, the school expanded to three Kindergarten and one Nursery class, operating from temporary facilities behind the church.
Responding to parental demand, SNPS opened Grade I in 1970 after receiving government recognition, and soon after, completed the primary and intermediate levels, constructing its first five-classroom building. By 1971, all elementary grades up to Grade VI were offered, with the first Grade VI class held in the Social Hall. Further government recognition in 1973 enabled the addition of more sections, and a new four-storey building, completed in 1974, accommodated the growing student body. In 1993-1994, the Administration Building was inaugurated, providing offices, computer rooms, and laboratories.
Over the decades, SNPS has grown into a trusted Catholic institution, committed to holistic education rooted in faith and academic excellence
Msgr. Miguel P. Nuguid was appointed parish priest of Bago Bantay on May 3, 1967. Upon arrival, he appealed for the construction of a new church to serve the growing community. Working with retired teacher Mrs. Romana Delos Angeles and the Catholic Women’s League, he helped establish the Sto. Niño Parochial School in 1968, with Mrs. Delos Angeles as its first teacher.
In the 1970s, plans for a permanent church took shape. On March 26, 1978, the cornerstone of the new church, where the silver Sto. Niño statue would be enshrined, was laid and blessed. The church was consecrated and dedicated to the Infant Jesus on January 14, 1983. The feast of the Holy Child of Bago Bantay is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of January, a special liturgical feast designated by the Holy See to the Philippines.
In 1976, the Sto. Niño Church became the seat of a newly created vicariate comprising seven parishes, marking a significant milestone in the parish’s history. The parish and school jointly celebrated their Golden Jubilee in January 2017, commemorating 50 years of faith and community service.
Msgr. Nuguid’s leadership was pivotal in uniting the community, fostering peace, and establishing enduring institutions that remain central to Bago Bantay’s spiritual and social life
