This course provides instruction in the research and writing skills and processes. Students will learn methods for gathering, evaluating, synthesizing, and documenting a range of sources in support of expository and argumentative essays. Emphasis is on critical thinking and writing clear, concise, and effective prose.
Topic 1 - Students will be able to critically analyze and evaluate the impact of digital technology on modern society, and construct a well-structured argumentative essay that synthesizes personal observations with scholarly sources to present a coherent thesis on a specific aspect of digital literacy, adhering to MLA formatting and citation standards.

Topic 3 - Learning to write argumentatively is an essential skill that you'll use in all kinds of college classes. However, more importantly, it involves skills used in many adult situations you'll find yourself in throughout your life. Most adults have to use argumentative skills in their professions, and we all should use them when discussing world events as well as when deciding which car or house your family should buy.
Topic 4 - Students will be able to effectively navigate academic library resources to locate and evaluate peer-reviewed articles relevant to their research questions, as demonstrated by successfully finding 3-5 appropriate scholarly sources and explaining their search methodology and selection criteria.
Topic 5 - Students will be able to construct an annotated bibliography in APA format that demonstrates their ability to summarize, evaluate, and analyze sources by creating entries that include correct APA citations, clear summaries of key findings, critical evaluation of source credibility, and analysis of relevance to their research question.
Topic 6 - Students will create a research proposal to be submitted to apply for funding or to receive approval to continue a project. For the purposes of this course, the research proposal is to clarify where you plan to go with your argumentative research paper.
Topic 7 - Students will write a formal research argumentative essay.
Topic 8 - Two things must be done to finish the class AND earn the college credits you worked so hard to earn.
