Here are answers to some questions that are commonly asked about National Honor Society:
Smyrna High NHS and Outside Organizations
Q: I got an invitation to NSHSS in the mail/my email. Is this affiliated with the Smyrna High School National Honor Society?
A: No, these two organizations are not related to one another. The NSHSS stands for National Society of High School Scholars, and they are a paid membership program. They are run by an outside company, and membership in their organization has no bearing on membership in our organization at Smyrna High School.
Eligibility and Invitation to Apply for Membership
Q: In which grade level can I expect to be invited to apply for NHS?
A: Only eleventh and twelfth grade students are considered for membership in NHS.
Q: What is the minimum GPA requirement to get into NHS?
A: The minimum GPA requirement is a 3.7 cumulative.
Q: If I am selected to apply for membership, how and when will I be notified?
A: If you are selected to apply for membership, then you will be notified through your school email, firstname.lastname@smyrnaeagles.org. Notifications typically go out at the end of September or the beginning of October.
Community Service Hours and Volunteer Requirements for Current Members
Q: If I complete community service hours over summer break, how many of them can I use for my fall community service hour requirement?
A: You may use five summer hours towards your fall community service hour requirement. You may also roll over five unused community service hours from the fall to spring semester.
Q: I heard that home game football stadium cleanups are going to be a requirement again. What are the requirements for these cleanups?
A: You are required to participate in at least one home game stadium cleanup. Students should arrive at least fifteen minutes before the game ends and meet in front of the women's bathroom in the stadium. You will be issued gloves and trash bags, and you will work to clean the stands, under the stands, and the surrounding grassy areas of the stadium after the game has ended. A sign-in sheet for attendance is completed at each game. If you are unable to attend for some reason, then you must communicate that with us ahead of time (You must complete the required form for attendance excusal).
Special consideration regarding attendance at these cleanups will be made for those who participate in the game (band, cheerleading, athletics, ROTC) and those who have Friday night religious responsibilities. If you need such consideration, please communicate this ahead of time to the advisors.

Q: How do I find opportunities to get community service hours?
A: Any opportunities that your advisors receive will be posted on Remind and on the NHS Google Classroom and this site's calendar; however, you are not limited to these opportunities. If there are no in-district opportunities, then you are expected to find your own opportunities to volunteer. Here are some great places to look for these opportunities:
