Written homework is given 2-3 times per week. The Blue Book (or Sound Book) is usually given for homework on Monday. A red check will be at the top right-hand corner of the page to indicate the letter/sound that is being reinforced. Your child needs to cut out and glue at least 3-4 pictures that make that specific BEGINNING SOUND (not middle or ending sound, unless it is a vowel). Please help you child find the pictures and with spelling. Your child should write the name for each picture. Please do not do any other letter or page that does not have a red check. Also, do not tear out any blank pages or allow your child to write/draw on any blank pages, as we will use those pages. Later in the year, the chidren will choose one of the pictures that they cut out and use it in a sentence on the back of the letter page. Any practice pages-math, phonics, handwriting, or reading-given for homework will also have a red check at the top right-hand corner. Homework is due the next day. Please do BOTH sides and complete in PENCIL unless otherwise indicated.
Please review the sight words as well as letter, sound, and number recognition every day. Each child should study the sight words from flash cards that you make for your child at home. You can use index cards or whatever works for you. Paper booklets that we have read together in school will come home to read with parents. Please have your child read each booklet to you at lease two times to practice fluency. Also, please help your child to practice writing the numbers, letters, and sight words. Math flash cards will be sent home once we have covered addition and subtraction. Flash cards should be practiced daily to become fluent with the math facts to 10.
Show & Tell Day is Friday. The item MUST fit in your child's backpack and should not be breakable. It would be great if it goes with our weekly theme, but does not have to.
If your child is absent, he/she should complete and return all missed work within a couple of days. If he/she arrives too late in the morning and is unable to complete the morning work in school, it will be sent home and should be completed and returned the next day.
