While at a conference for Oklahoma math teachers, I learned about how two doctoral candidates were using children's literature (picture Books) in the middle school classroom. I fell in love with this idea and decided I wanted to bring STEM to our elementary school through children's literature books.
I used the idea form my community project with the National Air and Space Museum Teacher Innovator Institute (TII). I, or a high school student, read to students at the elementary and conducted a STEM/STEAM project related to the story in the book. I have shared my ideas through presentations at a conference for Oklahoma teachers and the TII 2025 summer institute.
The purpose of this site is to share what I have done, what I plan to do, and get ideas from other educators. I have extended the literacy into my junior high and high school classes, but haven't documented as I did the elementary. It is a work in progress. You can click on the library menu to see what I have done so far.
