Suggested afternoon activities

Exercise - it is important to have some form of exercise each day

-Visit Mr Preston's Physical Education Google Site-Go for a walk-Use websites listed on Google Site ‘Physical Education’ tab-Alphabet Scavenger Hunt - search for items that begin with each letter of the alphabet-Hopscotch-Downball-Obstacle course-Hide and seek-Dancing - learn the Nutbush, Bus Stop, Macarena etc or make up your own dance routine-‘Just Dance’ or other active Wii games-Deck of cards workout - assign each suit a different exercise, e.g. Hearts = running on the spot; diamond = star jumps; spades = push ups; clubs = sit ups. The number on the card indicates how many of each exercise to do-Moonball - throw a balloon in the air and don’t let it fall to the floor

Play

-Construction - use Lego, build something with wood and tools, make cubby or tent, make a town with blocks, make something with boxes or other recycled materials-Exploration - look for minibeasts in the backyard (e.g. snails, worms, slaters etc), find leaves and sort/classify them-Imaginative - set up shops, dress ups, puppet plays, make TV commercials-Games - card games, board games, create your own board game, charades, tic-tac-toe, paddocks, hangman, ‘Minute To Win It’ games

Electronics - some students may find different apps on their iPad’s to support their learning

-Prodigy - maths-StudyLadder - maths, literacy, science, ICT, health-Clips - create videos, TV shows, commercials-Garageband - create music, podcasts-Scratch Jr - coding-Targeting Maths - maths-Word Mania - literacy-Cool Maths 4 Kids website - maths-Stop Motion - animation, make up a story

Art and craft activities

-Visit Mrs Wilson’s Visual Arts Google Site-Make playdough-Draw or paint a picture-Make bead or foil jewellery-Origami-Paint affirmation or kindness rocks-Make birthday cards-Paper airplane contests-Make and do with recycled products-Mr Squiggle - create pictures from squiggles or scribbles on a page (like ‘Beautiful Oops’)-Collect natural items from the yard and make a picture

LEGO is great for developing many things, like problem solving skills, spatial awareness, mathematical skills (such as counting, patterns, symmetry, location), creativity and imagination, experimentation, fine motor skills (coordination and strength in the fingers), perseverance, emotional regulation, focus and concentration, self confidence and it can also be very relaxing.
