To start your Silver Award you have to be aged 15+ years.
We usually launch the Award at the start of Year 10.
It will usually take you at least 6 months to complete your Silver programme.
Includes an online First Aid refresher
You also have to spend an extra six months the Volunteering, and six months on either the Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning. Knowing how long you’re going to do it for will help you to choose your activity and set your goals for each section.
When doing your Silver DofE Award you are required to complete the sections by Easter break in order to be able to attend the expeditions. There are two expeditions which the participants have to plan and prepare for over two training days. The training days occur in March and April on a Saturday and are mandatory to be able to take part in the expedition. During these training days participants also have to complete an online refresher First Aid course before attending the expedition.
Practice expedition: Held over three days in June around the Thetford area. Participants walk from Narborough or Swaffham to Fouldham Campsite ending in a nights camping. The second day they continue their walk to Two Mile Bottom in Thetford where they camp a second night. On their final day participants walk to Brandon, where they are collected and return to school to be picked up by parents.
Assessment Expedition: Held over three days in July in the Kimbolton and Grafham Water area. Participants walk three circular routes in the area. On their final day participants return to school to be picked up by parents.
