To start your Bronze Award you have to be aged 14+ years
We usually launch the Award at the start of Year 9.
It will usually take you at least 6 months to complete your Bronze programme.
Includes a First Aid course.
You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning. Knowing how long you’re going to do it for will help you to choose your activity and set your goals for each section.
When doing your Bronze DofE Award you are required to complete the sections by Easter break in order to be able to attend the expeditions. There are two expeditions which the participants have to plan and prepare for over two training days. The training days occur in March and April on a Saturday and are mandatory to be able to take part in the expedition.
Participants also have to complete an accredited First Aid qualification before attending the expedition, which is organised in school time.
Practice expedition: Held over two days in May locally. Participants walk from the school to Dersignham ending in a nights camping. The second day they continue their walk to Castle Rising where they are collected by parents.
Assessment Expedition: Held over three days in June in the Southwold (Suffolk) area. Day one participants leave after school arriving at Southwold campsite and explore the local area. Day two they walk a circular route and camp that evening. Day three they do their final circular walk and return to school to be collected by their parents.
