General Overview
Welcome to our Physical Education page! Check out the Grade Groups tab and drop down buttons for specific information pertaining to each grade group. This is where you'll find the answer to the age-old burning question that all young and inquiring minds want to know, "What are we doing in PE today, Mrs. Jasmine?" Should you choose to accept it, there's also an optional monthly fitness challenge for you and your family! In addition, a detailed class overview that outlines a curriculum structured around the Tennessee Physical Education Standards can be found in the drop tabs for each grade group.
In Tennessee, physical education focuses on developing the whole student—physically, mentally, and socially. The curriculum is structured around five core components:
Motor Skills (MS): Learning how the body moves.
Movement Knowledge & Application (MKA): Understanding rules, strategies, and concepts.
Fitness & Physical Activity (FPA): Participating in and evaluating physical fitness.
Personal & Social Responsibility (PSR): Demonstrating teamwork, respect, and safety.
Values Physical Activity (VPA): Recognizing the health, social, and emotional benefits of being active.
Warm-Up: Dynamic movements to prepare the body and mind for activity.
Skill Focus/Lesson: Direct instruction on a specific standard (e.g., overhand throwing critical elements, pacing, or defensive positioning).
Activity/Game: Putting the skill or strategy into practice through engaging games or fitness challenges.
Cool-Down & Reflection: Stretching/calming and a quick check-for-understanding regarding the day's health or movement concept.

It is always one of their most favorite days of the school year. I love the competitiveness and school spirit that is fostered at this event. These students become fierce competitors and cheer nonstop for their teammates. The joy on their faces when bringing home a Grand Champion trophy is priceless! GO BRAVES!
