In the early elementary years, students transition from simple exploration to mastering fundamental movement skills. We introduce basic games, rhythms, and challenges that require students to think about how they are moving. Students will practice coordination, learn to handle various types of sports equipment, and begin recognizing how exercise affects their bodies.
Mature Movement Patterns: Master skipping, leaping, and smooth transitions between different movements.
Object Control: Progress from underhand tossing to basic overhand throwing with proper foot opposition (stepping with the opposite foot).
Rhythm & Balance: Demonstrate beat awareness by moving to varying rhythms and maintaining balance during dynamic activities.
Fitness Concepts: Recognize physiological changes during exercise, such as an increased heart rate and heavier breathing.
