Chinese music, the art form of arranged vocal and instrumental sounds that developed in China, is one of the earliest and most advanced of all known musical systems. Its history spans several thousands of years, with archaeological evidence dating back to around 3000 BCE. Early musical instruments included pottery vessel flutes, bronze bells, and drums, with written records beginning from the Zhou dynasty.
