BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT

Classroom rules are displayed in our room and were discussed on the first day of school. It is important that they are followed by all students to promote a proper learning environment for everyone.

Positive reinforcement (praise and rewards) will be used to promote good behavior in our room, but some students have difficulty following the rules. To help students stay on track throughout the year I will use a flip card behavior plan.

A chart will have labeled pockets containing four cards for each student. Each day the whole class starts on the green card, meaning "I'm doing well."

If there's a behavior problem, I ask the child to please change his or her behavior and I flip a card. I also point out which classroom rule he or she is not following. Below the green card is a yellow "warning"card.

If behavior issues continue, the next card is an orange "think about it" card. The orange "think about it card" involves a simple worksheet that the student fills out explaining what the inappropriate behavior is in his or her own words. Then he/she signs the sheet, gives it to me for a signature and then will be required to take it home for a parent signature. The behavior sheet is to be turned in to me the next day.

Following the orange card is a red "consequence" card.

Consequences will vary depending upon the infraction and will include any one of the following:

Lunch detention

Email or phone call to parent

Loss of a privilege

Referral to the principal

Each day all the cards flip back to the green "I'm doing well" position. I believe in fresh starts.

I want to thank you ahead of time for the united front that we will present. It takes parents and teachers working together to produce successful children/students.
