Plan Options
Master Plans Being Considered
The committee studied over 6 different master plan configurations, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. However, while looking at various grade configurations, many on the committee felt that developing PK-5 elementaries would help eliminate the number of buildings the district is maintaining. It would also allow the district to consolidate the intermediate grades into a single 6-8 building. This would increase the overall efficiency of operations, allow the district to pool resources and present fewer transitions for students.
The committee narrowed the following master plan options to present to the community:
Plan A: Two (2) new PK-5 elementary schools, a new 6-8 middle school and renovations/additions to the existing high school
Plan B: Three (3) new PK-5 elementary schools, a new 6-8 middle school and renovations/additions to the existing high school
Plan C: Four (4) new PK-5 elementary schools, a new 6-8 middle school and renovations/additions to the existing high school
The committee also studied site viability for new buildings. Among the available options, the most favored sites were identified as Highland, Kimpton, Housely, Fishcreek, Lakeview and Woodland. A strong preference was indicated for a new middle school to be built at the current Kimpton site and for a new elementary school to be located at the district-owned Housely site.
The next step in this process includes soliciting feedback from the community to gather input on the best master plan for the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District. Town Hall meetings will be held in January 2024 as an opportunity for community members to learn more about the master plans, ask questions and provide their preference on a preferred plan that will best serve the community for years to come. This community feedback will be incorporated into the finalization of a master plan which will culminate into a recommendation to the Board of Education in March 2024.
