Tips for Dealing with Frustration and Setting Healthy Limits with Technology
Dealing with Frustration:
Take a minute to take a breath and be in the moment to help you be in the right mindset.
Going for a short walk will help ease some of the frustration.
Ground yourself with some sensory input before making any big choices. Mindfully wash your hands, get some water, have a snack, or listen to a song before any decisions are made.
Stop and Pause. Question for thought: Am I reacting to this current moment, or am I responding to something that happened in the past or something I heard is going to happen?
Parent Tips for Technology:
Be mindful of what you are modeling for your student (i.e., using phone during meals, monitoring your own screen time, engaging and/or spreading conflict on social media, etc.).
Introduce new physical activities that will help students feel interested in engaging in that activity and spending less time on their technology.
Go for a walk, discover a great book, and find ways to engage in face-to-face interactions with others.
Routine monitor your child’s online media presence. Common sense media has lots of tools.
