March Newsletter – 4 yr olds
We welcome the month of March. Hoping it is more of a Lamb than a Lion.
Themes:
The themes for the month are Read Across America, Super Secret Spy, Traveling with Transportation and Uniquely You.
To celebrate Read Across America, we will be doing different crafts and activities from several themes of books. Dr. Seuss’s Birthday - dressing as your favorite character, Hats off to a good book - wearing a hat, We are wild about books - wearing animal prints, Reading makes for a Bright future - wearing sunglasses and finally Cozy up to a good book - wearing your pajamas. There will be a separate paper that will come home in NewsNotes, regarding each day of Read Across America week for dressing up. Again this year we will be able to have local authors coming into the school to read to each class.
Next, we will be Super Secret Spies. It will be a fun week of making supplies that we would need to be Super Secret Spies. We will dress up as one on the 11th. If your child comes home with black fingertips, don’t be alarmed, they have to be finger printed to be a spy. We will have a sweatshirt with sneakers day on the 9th and a wear stripes day on the 10th
Date Knight Dance for Moms and sons will be Friday, March 13th, 6:00 - 8:00pm.
To start the letter “T” week off we will dress in Tie Dye on the 16th. We will be Traveling with Transportation this week. By boats, planes, trains and automobiles. They may even get their own licenses. March 17th we will dress like Leprechaun's or in St. Patty’s Day attire as we travel by plane over to Ireland for the day. On the 18th, bring in your favorite Teddy Bear for Tea as we travel on a Train. Last, on the 19th, wear a tie to school as we learn how to drive.
Staff Development with No School on March 20th
Letter U week will be Uniquely You week. What makes all of us unique and special? We will talk about it through crafts and activities. Everyone will have a chance to say something that they think is unique and special about each of their friends. We can’t have U week without having a day to dress as a Unicorn or in Uniform. We will do that on the 25th. We may even have a mystery reader that day. On the 26th we will kick off the season of Baseball with dressing for your favorite baseball team or just to welcome baseball.
We will wrap up March and the first day of April by talking about Easter and why we celebrate it.
Easter Break - April 2nd - 12th
April 13th there will be a sub for me. Mrs. Neel will be in with Mrs. Diane
Letters & Numbers:
The letters we will be working on this month are R,S,T, U. Numbers we will be working on are 8,9,10,11.. A lot of us may know our letters and numbers but how to write them can be a different world. We practice at school but practice at home. We can never practice too many times. We will also continue to work on writing Sight Words and become more familiar with them.
Tip of the Month:
Preschool teachers say over and over that kids today are less able to play imaginatively than kids of a decade or two ago. Too much of their day is structured in supervised activities. The antidote: Get comfortable saying “Go play”. It’s not your job to see that your child is entertained 24/7. Let them get a little bored. But make sure they have items like dress-up clothes, paint and paper, a big cardboard box and play dough. Electronics are not always needed.
