What is the Beginner Band Schedule?
Band meets at PHMS from 7:30-8:15 AM daily.
Band classes are sometimes divided by instrument
Band rarely conflicts with extracurricular activities, and we will work with you if it does.
The only time commitment outside of school are 3 concert performances and at-home practice!
Yes! We encourage our band members to participate in athletics and other school activities. Many of our band members are athletes, cheerleaders, actors, as well as leaders in academics! If there is a potential conflict, we will do our best to work with you and the other coach/teacher.
In the PHMS Beginning Band, students play with the standard instrumentation of a wind band. Depending on the instrument, a student may obtain an instrument from the school or rent/purchase one through Paige's Music in Indianapolis.
We will personally meet you and your child during a scheduled appointment for an instrument fitting and determine which one is best suited to you. Students should be open-minded and willing to try at least three instruments.
Students interested in oboe, bassoon, or french horn must be prepared to dedicate extra practice time and consider private lessons. It is also highly encouraged for students interested in percussion to have a minimum of two years experience in piano.
Instruments provided by the school include Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Baritone, and Tuba. Note - these instruments are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Yes! If you live in the district, students will ride the middle school bus to PHMS for band every morning. Class is from 7:30 to 8:15 AM. Following class, we have three buses available to take the students to their respective elementary schools.
No! The main cost is your instrument. Quality new and used instruments are available from our local music vendor, Paige's Music. The school district also provides the bigger (tuba, baritone) and more expensive (french horn, bassoon) instruments to students for a small annual maintenance fee. Most students rent an instrument on a rental-purchase plan at a low monthly cost. Please wait until our instrument selection appointment in August before purchasing an instrument.
WE WANT YOU IN THE BAND!!!
