Circulation Policies

PreK - 5th Grade Circulation Policies

Students checkout books during their regularly scheduled media classes. In addition, students are welcome to visit the Media Center for checkout during the rest of the week with teacher permission.

Students may check out books according to grade level:

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten:   1 book

1st Grade:  1 book until December;  2 books after Winter Break (if their account is clear)

2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades: 2 books

Materials are due back one week following checkout or may be renewed for an additional week as long as no one has requested the title.  Once the grade-level maximum is reached, items must be returned in order to check out more materials.

While there are no fines for overdue books, you must pay for lost or damaged books.  We will use this payment to purchase another copy of the book for students to enjoy.  There are three ways to pay for lost or damaged books. The first two ways are with exact cash or with a check made out to HES, and send the payment to school in an envelope marked "Media Center."  The other way to pay is using My School Bucks. If you would like to use this payment, please make sure you that you email me so that I can set the fine. The payment is refundable if a lost book is found and returned during the current school year.

Students who owe money to the library for lost or damaged books, risk losing the privilege of borrowing more materials and will receive a notice.

Water Bottles and Book Damage

The largest percentage of library books that are damaged are a direct result of water bottles in backpacks. We understand that students need water bottles for hydration, but they are not good for library books. Please make sure that the caps/tops of the water bottles are secure and remind your students to check before they put their library book in their backpack.
